    So much intellectual garbage, its astounding. The very idea that "whiteness" is associated with these very HUMAN characteristics is fundamentally racist. And this critical theory permeates academia in what once were the FREE-EST nations on Earth. Its stomach turning.

    An old churning pisreóg or belief (not superstition!) in the Irish midlands fifty years ago was that if someone visited the house while churning was in progress they should "put their weight on the churn" (give it a few turns) before they left the house lest they "took the butter" with them (meaning the butter wouldn't make- the fairies would have stolen it). The poor local postman was often crippled from churning in a lot of houses as he made his rounds by bicycle through the parish.

    As you probably know, the Irish also had fire rituals at the solstices, equinoxes and cross quarter holidays. Fires were built on hills and in some rituals, cattle were walked between rows of fire to encourage their productivity, fecundity and to protect them. I think fire also has a cleansing and protecting aspect in many rituals. As to connection to place of origin, my family has been in North America since 1812 on my mothers side and 1895 on my father's, but my longing for Ireland has still been so deep that I finally had to move there and work to get my citizenship. The fact that I was now an "outsider" to the actual current inhabitants and even an object of derision, was incredibly heartbreaking to me. Christy Moore wrote in his song The City of Chicago (where I am from), "In the city of Chicago, there are people yearning for the hills of Donegal."

    Hi Rune :) thanks again for your work and sharing. this makes me think of the Norwegian "baune" on top of their mountains, wich is of course a way of communicating over distance, but might there also be a bit of "claming the land ceromoni" for the rulers? Like a way for the king to claim all the lands in the "baune" line with 'his"/and or "family fire" thereby making it impossible for others to claim..

    In the Ṛg Veda, the first word (after oṃ) is Agni, meaning both fire and the fire deity. The Vedas were largely ritual manuals detailing how to perform elaborate fire sacrifices in which consecrated fires were used as intermediaries between the Earth and the Heavens. The symbolism of reducing all things consumed by fire to a common substance, ash, and transporting burnt offerings to the sky as smoke later reinterpreted as symbols for inner yogic processes of spiritual awakening. Also, personal gnosis says Surt is the older living being in the Norse pantheon, perhaps older than Ymir.

    Like neo-pagan maybe a new term can be coined like neo-indigenous or retro-indigenous for people from colonizer cultures to express their desire to return their ancestoral roots that were so very similar to indigenous communities and to not only make ammends for the damage our society has done to other but heal our selves and culture by learning from the indigenous people about our own ancestral ways. 🤷‍♂️🙇‍♂️

    Oof I i teared up a little bit at "Every day". That hit really hard. The people who grew up with this culture and folklore take it for granted, I think, their connection to the place of their ancestors. They have no need to think of us on this side of the pond. But I do think of them everyday. Wishfully. It is only a dream right now to someday travel to the land of my ancestors.(Finland) That said, I feel as though the simple act of working with a land; planting and putting one's hands in the soil and being in relationship with that place with intention can create a sense of connectedness. Making offerings to the spirits of a place regularly helps me. I feel this honors the first people that once honored them in a way, too. I love the concept of this fire ritual, but as you and another commenter pointed out it doesn't quite feel right in North America to claim a place in this way. I'm not sure what the right answer is, but I appreciate the food for thought and look forward to the Land Connectedness series. ✌🏻

      You have to live in these places anyway. Make peace with the spirits there, be mindful of who has previously walked those places, and commit to donations to the indigenous community who is/was there too.

    I'm just not sure this is a viable path forward on Turtle Island. In the context of the Pyrocene, and our genocidal history, this gesture somehow has the feel of domination. Of claiming. Taking, again. The human has so much more power now, the relationship grown so unbalanced, that maybe this ceremonial imagery sits differently now than it did when we huddled around an isolated hearth to stay alive through an arctic winter. I can't imagine a respectful way to bring this forward to a First Nation with the idea of working 'in embassy' with them. But maybe I'm wrong. We do so need to find some authentic way to connect that feels right. I've spread my father's ashes on the hill. Buried beloved dogs and horses in the clay here. The grass waves over my grandparents. Never lived anywhere else but it's still hard to feel like it's a legitimate home.

    • @mtnmoth
      @mtnmoth 9 днів тому

      Why don't you ask the people of Turtle Island. Rune is Danish, this is all from a European context. He can't fully speak to the situation with Turtle Island and its tribes. It's up to us USians to solve this problem. But this is a useful thing to learn something that we of the European descent have long forgotten, rejected, and had taken away from us.

    • @crestonhorses2365
      @crestonhorses2365 9 днів тому

      @@mtnmoth mostly agreed. Responding to his comments on both the urgency and difficulty of land connection for settler folk. Recognizing also that First People's are culturally diverse, and that the many First Nations and their individuals are also coming from different life and historical experiences and perspectives. I'm not sure a consensus would be achievable. And USians may not find the same way forward as us Canadians, and the Mexicans. Our histories and cultures aren't the same either. The problem extends beyond Turtle Island too, I'm sure that similar challenges face the south americans, australians, etc. I feel like there needs to be a way for individuals to begin to heal land relationship on a small scale with their own place, without waiting to fully sort out these epic, tangled, intractable-feeling issues..somehow without it becoming a sort of spiritual colonialism, as Rune has warned of.

    This definitely gave me a lot to think about! I recently talked to a Heathen about animal sacrifice because I didn't understand what is being sacrificed or offered to deities when the animal's life doesn't belong to us. I was always under the assumption that I offer items as gifts. Things that I have use for or mean something to me. Is there a resource to learn more about the concept of sacrifice in the Animist sense?

    My objection to New Age philosophy is that it teaches you are 100% responsible for literally anything that happens to you. The pedophile who got hold of you when you were 3? Your fault, not his, because you are so all-powerful that you planned and created the abuse. Therefore no crime is punishable; there are no such things as predators. I met people who fully believed this, and were suffering from depression & anxiety because they were trying to take on responsibility for “causing” their own abuse while predators got off Scot free. I have worked closely with a real shaman (not New Age-Navajo), the real deal-he’s healed me and many others. He told me what New Agers get wrong about shamanism and it’s EPIC. He had me attend a ceremony where a lot of white New Agers were present but said he could not do a REAL ceremony with them, because when most white New Agers experience the supernatural events common in real ceremonies they freak out so much they disrupt the entire thing. (I don’t freak out at all when I experience the paranormal; I have psychic mediumship abilities so this stuff is old hat to me.). I think New Age is very attractive to people with innate psychic abilities because in the West, religion rejected all these abilities but New Age and other systems, such as modern witchcraft, sprang up in an attempt to remedy this. But these new inventions are not deeply grounded in ancient traditions that have been tested, used, and taught for thousands of years. So there’s a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding of genuine spiritual truths & laws in New Age. Lack of grounding is the other huge issue I see in New Age. New Agers are all about self-transformation, raising themselves up to have peak experiences, seeking enlightenment by going high, not realizing this will get them nowhere spiritually-the real path to spiritual awakening goes down into the underworld (that is the basis of reality), where we find all our healing. That’s just ONE of the many basic misunderstandings of spirituality that New Agers have. There is one church in America and Britain that practices a spirituality similar to New Age but much more grounded, with no wildly inaccurate teachings. The Spiritualist Church was founded in the 1880s by white people and Native Americans who wanted a religion that would accept contact with spirits and healing as part of its tradition. The service is a modified Native American ceremony. Hardly anyone knows anything about them-they’re not big on advertising and are quite small. I was invited to a service and to my surprise found myself surrounded by people just like me-psychics & mediums. Every human has these abilities-we are not special. We’re just awake to our abilities.
